Since April 1988, Coconut Beach Volleyball Complex has served as the home of sand volleyball in the New Orleans region. Made of twenty courts and 100,000 square feet of outdoor man-made beach, Coconut Beach Sand Sports Complex is the largest sand volleyball complex in the United States and serves thousands of players a week participating in organized leagues, tournaments and events.
Coconut Beach was established in New Orleans in 1988, located in the West End area on a underfunded NORD playground in a Cooperative Endeavor Agreement with the City of New Orleans. After Hurricane Katrina the Army Corps of Engineers appropriated the property for the construction of the new 17th Street Canal Pumping Station.
After an exhausting search, the City of Kenner provided property, in a Cooperative Endeavor Agreement, for the relocation of the Coconut Beach Volleyball Complex.
